Tour Plan
After receiving a pick-up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and being driven to your hotel in Moshi Town, you will meet our guide, who will provide you with information about your forthcoming trip and ensure that you have all the equipment you need for the mountains. On this day, missing gear can be hired.
The first day on the Umbwe Route comprises a relatively short, sharp ascent up Kilimanjaro’s western flank. The path climbs a ridge through thick, lush forest to arrive at Cave Camp on the upper limits of the forest zone.
The relentless climb towards Kibo continues, and as it does so, the path steepens and narrows before breaking out of the forest, weaving through the rampant health and edging along the rim of the Great Barranco Valley before arriving at the Barranco Hut.
Have a short day walk while exploring the landscape near the campsite. The day is meant for acclimatization allowing your body getting used to high altitude and lower oxygen levels. Return to the campsite in the afternoon for lunch and rest. Take a rest of the day off gaining energy for the next day.
Climb on a steep ridge passing the Baranco wall leading to Karanga hut. Stay at Karanga hut for the hot lunch and have a long rest while you enjoying the mountain and having good pictures for different land scrapes and birds. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Take to about 4 Hours climb from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp. On the trail drink enough water, lunch and continue to enjoy the alpine desert ahead.
Wake up around 11:00pm for adding more warm clothes and head lamp. Leave the camp and start summiting by midnight onto the glacial zone. The path leads to Stella point 5756M for the short brake of water or hot tea. Have time for photographs and a little rest while at the summit. For climbers who have experienced AMS are advised to start descending down, however for those interested can take a round trip along the crater rim to reach Uhuru peak 5895M.Proceed by descend from the summit to arrive to the base camp, take short rest for 2 hours before lunch. Wake up and repack your stuffs, done the lunch and start to descend to Mweka hut “pole pole” while enjoying the beautiful view of the mountain.
This final section is a very satisfying end to your Kilimanjaro experience. The descent is gentle and steady and passes through some very pleasant stretches of scenery. Walk slowly, enjoy the downhill gradient and look at the minutiae along the trail. You will also be able to see both Kibo and Mawenzi slip away from you.
You have the entire day to relax after safari or trekking before your return flight. You can see Moshi town, go on day trips, or get some souvenirs before leaving for the airport, depending on the time of your departure. If you want to explore Tanzania even further, there are add-ons like safari and Zanzibar.
